23 Nov 2023

The Guide you will use again and again

Ensuring a planned and structured onboarding experience for new employees is vital for boosting their engagement and retention within your organisation.

Surprisingly, approximately 60% of businesses neglect to establish specific goals or milestones for their new hires. Additionally, only 12% of employees believe their employers offer effective onboarding programs.

That’s why crafting an exceptional onboarding plan is crucial, and we’re here to guide you through it.

Presenting your comprehensive onboarding checklist:

Before your new hire commences:

Speak with the new employee’s line manager to grasp their goals for the initial weeks

Prepare all necessary documents, including induction checklists, new starter forms, and an employee handbook

Ensure a well-organised workstation with all required equipment

Set up accounts for email, software, and essential websites so they can log on from day one

Send out any pre-reading materials, allowing ample time for digestion, giving them a chance to learn more about your Company.

Day 1:

Introduce the new team member to colleagues and provide a tour of the office for a warm welcome

Sort out payroll and get their P45 if applicable

Supply materials to facilitate a smooth transition into their new role

Review key health and safety information, such as fire exits and first aid locations

Clearly articulate their responsibilities and how their role contributes to the broader company objectives

Show them where they can make their tea or coffee!

Week 1:

Assign a challenging yet manageable project to showcase their skills without overwhelming them

Ensure completion of relevant documents, such as employment contracts and induction checklists

Establish clear goals and milestones for the probation period, scheduling regular review meetings, those first 3-6 months can fly by!

Month 1:

Communicate your company’s long-term goals and illustrate their role in the journey

Check in to gauge how they are settling in and ensure clarity regarding expectations

Assist in fostering relationships with colleagues they’ll closely collaborate with
